Our History

The current DNHU Department of Music was formerly the Department of Musical Education of the National Hua Lien University of Education. It was established in 1992 with the purpose to develop excellent music teachers for elementary schools. As the demand for teachers declined, the department was actively transformed to the Department of Music in 2006 in order to withstand changes in our social structure.

The Masters program was established in 2007 with the aim to cultivate music research specialists, professional performers and provide a channel for music teachers in Eastern Taiwan to advance their studies. The department merged with Dong Hwa University in 2008 and changed its name to National Dong Hwa University, Department of Music. A new Department of Music Academic Building is scheduled to complete in 2021 and will launch a new era for the performing arts at National Dong Hwa University. Upon completion, the building facility will include a brand new Concert Hall and new teaching classroom equipment among other features.

The National Dong Hwa University campus site rests on beautiful countryside grounds, which offer students a peaceful environment conducive to study and relaxation. We are a comprehensive university with a wide range of programs and abundant teaching resources.
